So, my best friend passed away exactly a month ago right around this time. He was an amazing guy, you guys would of loved him if you ever got the chance to meet him. I could tell a thousand stories, but instead I’ve decided to share the speech that i read at his funeral as it epitomizes what he was like. Here it is:
On a snowy Saturday last February, three of my friends had come to visit me at college.
Joey Vita, his brother Nick, and Joe Klett. For the first time in years, this tetrad was united.
On that evening, we went to the casino.
If you had asked if I believed in luck on that day, I’d surely respond no.
Within minutes of arriving at the place, I had blown 40 dollars.
The Vitas had not fared well either.
Meanwhile, Joey had multiplied ten dollars into seven hundred,
All the while he was puffing on a Cuban cigar that I had got him for his birthday,
And flirting with the middle aged women beside him.
Joey had continued to win as we watched on,
We weren’t able to pull him away until six the following morning.
Exhausted and famished, we headed back to my college.
Unexpectedly, Joey pulled into a Dunkin Donuts whereupon he insisted that he buy us each whatever we’d like.
We ordered, and he pulled away before realizing that the worker had forgotten his chocolate milk.
He proceeded to circle around.
As he grabbed the milk from the young woman working the window, he shouted, “You’re beautiful!” and then sped away.
I caught a glimpse of the woman smiling, and at that moment my feelings changed.
Joey’s family, his friends, his teachers, even the fast food restaurant workers,
We’ve all been lucky, lucky to have him in our lives.
Though Joey’s passing was untimely, he had sustained countless relationships and impacted far more individuals in his short 19 years than I could fathom to in my entire lifetime, no matter the length.
You have made us smile, you have made us laugh, you have inspired us all.
And so I speak on behalf of everybody here this morning when I say, for that Joey, thank you.
We’ll miss you… I miss you.Posted 1 week ago with 4 notes | reblog
